ポール・ジャクソン / イギリス
Paul Jackson / U.K.
Trained with a Fine Art education, Paul Jackson has been a professional paper folder since 1982. His early creative origami work was confined to conventional model making (animals, boxes, etc). However, bored by the banality and the dominance of this model making approach to origami, he began in the mid 1980's to explore what he calls "non-model" and "non-origami" ways of folding paper. The work on display represents his "organic abstract" style of folding. Paul considers the work to be outside the model-making traditions of problem-solving origami, being closer to the conceptual, aesthetic and critical traditions of a Fine Art practice. Thus, he dislikes the description of his work as "origami models", prefering the description "sculptures in folded paper ". Paul regularly exhibits his work. He also teaches the techniques of sheet manipulation to Art & Design students throughout the UK and overseas, undertakes commercial commissions and has written 24 books on origami, pop-ups and paper sculpture. |
